The Faculty of Arts and Sciences at ACU National offers courses leading to awards at undergraduate and postgraduate level at the University's six campuses within the specialisations of the liberal and creative arts, the social sciences, the natural sciences, information technology and business. Wide range of disciplines The Faculty comprises thirteen Schools, a Sub-Faculty of Business and Informatics (with three schools), a Sub-Faculty of Philosophy and Theology (with five schools & one Graduate School of Research in Philosophy and Theology) and five stand alone schools, with staff working in a wide range of discipline areas including: Australian Studies Literature, Visual Arts, Drama Business, Information Systems Behavioural Science, Psychology Social Sciences, Philosophy, Theology, Biblical Studies Asian Studies (including Japanese) History Music Media Environmental Science, Geography Social Work Ethics Challenging and relevant The Faculty accepts the intrinsic worth of liberal studies to the individual and to society at large, and seeks to offer undergraduate, graduate and research programs which are both challenging academically and responsive to society's rapidly changing demands. Academic integrity Through its courses, the Faculty seeks to prepare its students to think critically, to evaluate evidence from many sources, to take part intelligently in the life of a complex society, informed by their studies and the goals set out in the Mission Statement of the University, especially the aim "to be a community characterised by free inquiry and academic integrity". Diverse career prospects The Faculty aims to produce graduates who are well equipped to serve the wider community in its ethical, cultural, scientific and commercial development. Our graduates are achieving this in a broad range of occupations. They are found in management and administration, in advertising, public relations, business and commerce, social work, the church, private enterprise, journalism, teaching and community services. Extension Studies Extension Studies in Music will be offered in 2005 at ACU National's Melbourne Campus (St Patrick's). Extension Studies aims to provide high-achieving VCE students with the opportunity to extend their learning opportunity. Postgraduate opportunities The University has an increasingly vigorous research program, and apart from coursework Master's degrees, has facilities for the research degrees of Master of Music, Master of Social Science [by research], Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy in fields mutually arranged by candidates and staff able to supervise them.
