Master of Clinical Nursing (Aged Care) 2003 Leanne teaches Home and Community Care (HACC) service providers in Queensland about continence, promoting a proactive approach to continence care. “I thoroughly enjoy my educating role, there is a great sense of job satisfaction when you hear that the strategies that you implemented have had a positive health outcome for the client,” said Leanne. “I chose to do postgraduate study because I am inspired by new knowledge and I felt a need to keep up with current practices and trends in the workplace,” she said. “Attaining the Master of Clinical Nursing (Aged Care) has been a great benefit to my nursing career. It has enhanced my credibility for my education presentations and has opened many doors for participation on working parties at an expert level,” said Leanne. Igor Hodoba Master of Information Systems 2002 Igor Hodoba undertook postgraduate study to update and consolidate his technical knowledge and to give up an edge over his colleagues in the workplace. “The main aspects of my current job are second level technical support on Fuji Xerox, Multifunction Products, including problem analysis, product training, marketing assistance, onsite and in house analyst assistance, creation of technical documentation such as technical bulletins and training documentation. Prior to this I was involved with technical support and field service,” said Igor. “Gaining my Masters degree has earned me respect from management and colleagues. Also my remuneration has been increased significantly,” he said. “ACU National has excellent equipment, small class numbers and the lecturers are very accessible. All of this fosters a close relationship between teacher and student,” said Igor.
Joanne Druery works in Human Resources, providing advice on risk management, safety, Workcover, food safety, diversity, equity and sexual harassment. For Joanne, on-line postgraduate study was a convenient way of studying which allowed her to interact and share ideas and experience with business people from all around the world. “Postgraduate study was a personal goal of mine and completing my Masters degree has given me a great sense of personal satisfaction, it has also increased my marketability in the job market,” she said. Susana Gonzalez Master of Psychology 2004 Susana’s work at Windermere involves the development and implementation of a new early intervention and prevention initiative. “We aim to prevent family problems by providing early support to parents and caregivers of children and young people, aged 0-18, who are experiencing difficulties. The service includes assessment, support and information, and referrals to local services. We also participate in community out-posting and support groups,” said Susana. “For my Masters in Psychology research project, I worked in a playgroup that aimed to improve the attachment between mothers and their children who are having difficulties in their relationship. This has been the most satisfying part of my work,” said Susana. “Studying at ACU National, I was learning from lecturers and professors who imparted their invaluable wisdom and also provided an approachable, supportive, and professional environment in which I could develop my own knowledge and skills,” Susana said. Peter George Burger Master of Arts (Theology) (Online) 2004 Teacher Year 9 Manager Underdale High School, Adelaide “Studying Theology on-line through ACU National’s ACUweb has been great,” said Peter. “It has sharpened my social justice perspective on how schools run and how students should be treated and it has also sharpened my intellect and developed my essay writing skills. This in turn has aided me in my support for senior students and made me a much better teacher.” “I find on-line learning fantastic, efficient and friendly. The support from ACU National staff is excellent. I feel closer to my lecturers than I ever did as an undergraduate,” he said. “I had a desire to do postgraduate study. I did not want to go through the nonsense of another undergraduate degree, clashing with students a third my age. I was originally attracted to do a Masters in Teaching, but what I really wanted to study was Theology. Trent DeanGraduate Diploma – Clinical Nursing: Child and Adolescent Health (Online) Registered Nurse at the Mater Children’s Private Hospital, Brisbane “Nurses in this country and overseas are in high demand,” said Trent Dean. “I decided to do postgraduate study to further my knowledge base and advance my professional career.” “The Graduate Diploma in Clinical Nursing: Child Adolescent Health has helped me in my current role as a Registered Nurse where I provide professional nursing care in a paediatric setting,” he said. “My postgraduate degree enhanced my clinical judgment and aided my progression to a Clinical Nurse,” said Trent. Dr Robert Gray Master of Arts (Theology) 1994 (Online) Professor of Applied Linguistics Waseda University, Tokyo Robert Gray had already obtained two postgraduate degrees before commencing a Master of Arts (Theology) at ACU National. “The Master of Arts (Theology) enhanced my awareness of current issues and concerns in the discipline of Theology and related areas and my academic horizons have broadened as a direct result of having undertaken this study,” said Robert. “I live in Japan and work full-time. The ACU National online learning environment made it possible for me to study while continuing to work at the same time. The benefits of online learning for me included becoming confident in the use of online learning as a mode of study and the academic stimulus from both instructors and fellow students via the online discussion board,” he said. “I find the challenge of study at the postgraduate level to be personally rewarding and as a result I have a commitment to life-long learning,” said Robert. |
