Master of Psychology 2004

Family Support Worker, Windermere Child and Family Services, Melbourne
Susana’s work at Windermere involves the development and implementation of a new early intervention and prevention initiative.
“We aim to prevent family problems by providing early support to parents and caregivers of children and young people, aged 0-18, who are experiencing difficulties. The service includes assessment, support and information, and referrals to local services. We also participate in community out-posting and support groups,” said Susana.
“For my Masters in Psychology research project, I worked in a playgroup that aimed to improve the attachment between mothers and their children who are having difficulties in their relationship. This has been the most satisfying part of my work,” said Susana.
“Studying at ACU National, I was learning from lecturers and professors who imparted their invaluable wisdom and also provided an approachable, supportive, and professional environment in which I could develop my own knowledge and skills,” Susana said.
“Studying Theology on-line through ACU National’s ACUweb has been great,” said Peter. “It has sharpened my social justice perspective on how schools run and how students should be treated and it has also sharpened my intellect and developed my essay writing skills. This in turn has aided me in my support for senior students and made me a much better teacher.”
“I find on-line learning fantastic, efficient and friendly. The support from ACU National staff is excellent. I feel closer to my lecturers than I ever did as an undergraduate,” he said.
“I had a desire to do postgraduate study. I did not want to go through the nonsense of another undergraduate degree, clashing with students a third my age. I was originally attracted to do a Masters in Teaching, but what I really wanted to study was Theology. A friend recommended ACU National and I haven’t looked back since,” said Peter.
“At age 57 I love my job more than ever and I get so much satisfaction in knowing that so many of my students respect me for what I do as a teacher.
I can face any sort of class, any sort of situation in a school with the utmost confidence,” said Peter.

Robert Gray had already obtained two postgraduate degrees before commencing a Master of Arts (Theology) at ACU National.
“The Master of Arts (Theology) enhanced my awareness of current issues and concerns in the discipline of Theology and related areas and my academic horizons have broadened as a direct result of having undertaken this study,” said Robert.
“I live in Japan and work full-time. The ACU National online learning environment made it possible for me to study while continuing to work at the same time. The benefits of online learning for me included becoming confident in the use of online learning as a mode of study and the academic stimulus from both instructors and fellow students via the online discussion board,” he said.
“I find the challenge of study at the postgraduate level to be personally rewarding and as a result I have a commitment to life-long learning,” said Robert.
