ACU National provides education programs and related support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education.

Each campus aims to provide appropriate cultural, personal and academic support in an environment which promotes positive Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander identity.

On-campus support
Three on-campus Indigenous Education Units cater for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, as part of the portfolio of the Office of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Quality and Outreach).

The staff of these units are Indigenous people, offering a range of services to help Indigenous students achieve their goals. Applicants are strongly encouraged to make personal contact with relevant state Liaison Officers (see contact details below) for information about admission and support services provided.

Positive identity
The units provide social, cultural, personal and academic support to the growing numbers of Indigenous people studying at the University. In turn, this contributes to an environment which promotes a positive Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander identity.

Valuable insights
Working with other University staff, the support units give valuable insights into how the courses offered can include the viewpoints of Indigenous peoples. They also liaise with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations to plan and implement University initiatives in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education.

All serve as a resource to staff and students in the development of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives.

Individualised support scheme
ACU National's Individualised Support Scheme is designed to help Indigenous students who enrol in the University's mainstream undergraduate courses not directly related to Indigenous studies.

The scheme involves a specially designed program of study and provides extra counselling and academic skills support when students are adjusting to the discipline of University studies.

For the increasing number of Indigenous students enrolling in mainstream courses such as Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Social Science and Bachelor of Arts, the Individualised Support Scheme represents another valuable back-up service by the on-campus Indigenous Education Units.
